Parent Update 25th March 2020

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Thank you for heeding Federal Government advice to be cautious about the spread of COVID-19. We are also sending Wellbeing resources for you and your children as an attachment in today’s communication.

We would also like to thank parents who responded to our request to update email addresses. This means you will receive current communication and advice so we can continue working together to support your children’s health, wellbeing and learning.

Schools still remain open for children of frontline essential staff

The health advice on schools remains unchanged. Our Chief Medical Officers indicate that our schools should remain open for parents who need to send their children to school. On line and remote learning has been implemented successfully at KHS. Please make sure your children log in and engage with their learning.

Please note: the Canteen and Uniform Shop are closed until further notice.

Supporting continuity of learning for all students

Our staff have been working hard to develop a suite of learning resources and options for students to undertake from home. The Department has developed and will continue to develop resources and offer professional learning to help teachers with this task. Please ensure your email is current and provided to the school. Please check it regularly and briefly respond to teachers to indicate you have received the information.

Whether your child is at school or at home, the aim is for all students to access the consistent learning content provided by our school. This may mean sending work home, either with physical materials or by email, or by making use of one of our online platforms at our school.

Support for students at home

I encourage you to access the Learning from Home resource which provides practical advice to parents and carers on how to best create and support a productive learning environment in the home.

We are using:

Google Classroom, Zoom, Adobe Connect, Edrolo, Education Perfect, Microsoft Teams and email. Many staff have already sent home emails to parents and students to communicate log in codes, instructions and other requirements.

Please remember we are a BYOD school and to support health hygiene practices, if your child must attend school, then please send them with their fully charged device.

NESA Update

The board of NESA met yesterday and have provided some guidelines. We are meeting as an executive team this afternoon to clarify and communicate with you our processes for the remainder of Term 1. All Year 12 parents have been sent a copy of the NESA e-mail, please note that I am awaiting further detailed information from the NESA board that will allow us to plan for Term 2.
