High Potential and Gifted Education

Gifted and Talented Creative Arts Program

Kiama High Creative Arts Gifted and Talented program aims to provide extra-curricular opportunities to students who display aptitude in the Creative Arts. Solidly centered on future-focused teaching and learning, we are offering extension opportunities to students in Years 5 and 6 across our community of schools. Through enrichment and extension, the program aims to develop artistic ability to nurture and inspire creative learners.

Activities in Visual Arts such as painting, ceramics, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, photography and graphic design will be covered.

Kiama High Creative Arts Gifted and Talanted Program will run on Wednesday afternoons from 3:45 to 5:00pm from Terms 2 through 4. Expert teachers will conduct workshops to develop a student's artistic and theatrical ability. Students selecting the Visual Arts program will need to pay a $10 a term cost to the front office to cover materials.

Ad Altiora Extension Class

At Kiama High School, we believe in providing opportunity, innovation, and success for all students. That's why we are proud to offer the Ad Altiora Excel Extension Class for Year 7 students. This class provides a unique and dynamic curriculum enriched with challenging activities, interdisciplinary projects, and exciting excursions, aimed at fostering academic excellence and encouraging self-discovery.

The Ad Altiora Extension Class is designed to create a dynamic and engaging learning experience by broadening, deepening, and modifying educational content. Students in this program have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of enrichment programs, including field trips, workshops, and interdisciplinary projects, which help them cultivate a positive approach to learning and acquire advanced academic skills.

Research from the Revisiting Gifted Education literature review by the Centre for Education and Statistics Evaluation emphasises the value of High Potential and Gifted Education. Gifted students require an environment where they can confidently take risks, identify and enhance their abilities, participate in challenging activities, express their creativity, and be motivated to attain academic excellence. The Ad Altiora Extension Class aims to provide such an environment, ensuring that high-potential and gifted students receive the support and opportunities they need to thrive.

Enrolling in the Ad Altiora Extension Program offers numerous benefits for students, including enhanced critical thinking skills, improved learning outcomes, increased self-esteem, exposure to different fields and careers, improved time management and socialization skills, career preparation, and increased cultural awareness.

Applications for entry to the Ad Altiora Extension Class in 2025 will open in Term 4 for Year 5 students. This early application process allows students and their parents to plan ahead and prepare for the opportunities that await them in the Ad Altiora program. To ensure that parents have all the necessary information, we will be hosting parent information nights prior to the closing of applications. These information nights will provide a comprehensive overview of the program, its benefits, and the application process, allowing parents to make informed decisions regarding their child's educational journey. We encourage all interested parents to attend these information nights and join us in shaping a bright future for their children at Kiama High School.

If you have any further questions or require additional information, please don't hesitate to contact us at 02 4232 1911 or email kiama-h.school@det.nsw.edu.au. We look forward to welcoming motivated and talented students to the Ad Altiora Extension Class at Kiama High School.
